I received a call on my landline from my brother and when I answered it was someone else's voice asking if I was Matthew's sister. I died a thousand deaths in that moment as my heart lurched into my throat wondering what had happened to my brother. You see, my brother, Matthew, is special needs and although my only wish is to see him achieve independence I also know that he needs special care and attention to function in today's society.
This young man on the other end of the phone explained that he had found Matthew's cell phone at a bus stop and wanted to find out a way to give it back.
Was I blown away at this young man's honesty and his desire to do the right thing and return property to the one who had lost it. He may have known my brother from riding the city bus but I am not sure and it doesn't really matter - he was a young man with integrity and good manners and the ability to do the right thing.
A meeting place was arranged and my brother got his phone back and I am in awe of the good conscience of a young man.
Thank you, Mr. Kyle F - you will go far in life.
