Guess what, Prince George? You're amazing!
We set a goal for this year's Prince George Terry Fox Run to exceed 1,000 participants. This past Sunday at Community Foundation Park, together as a community, we did just that.
This year's Terry Fox Run saw 1,021 people cross the finish line. Regardless of whether these great community residents were running, biking, wheeling or walking, each individual was there for the same thing: to raise money for cancer research and to celebrate Terry's dream of hope.
To the Prince George residents who donated, participated, volunteered and/or cheered, you are among the millions of people around the world who will ensure Terry Fox's dream of finding a cure for cancer is one day successfully brought to fruition.
A special thanks, of course, goes out to all the volunteers who made this a great event. Without them, it wouldn't have been possible. Also, a major shout-out to the local businesses who got involved: Save On Foods donated all of the snacks and refreshments, while North Roast provided coffee for every single Terry Fox Run participant. Let's not forget about the perpetually amazing Mrs. Cartwright, who baked up 900 cookies the night before the run, raising just over $800 towards for the Terry Fox Foundation.
In addition, nothing but respect for UNBC Athletics; it's become a tradition to see them at the Terry Fox Run each year and they generously donated over 100 tickets to their basketball home opener. It was also fantastic to see the Prince George Spruce Kings in attendance, whose appearance was appreciated after they spent the previous night battling out a double overtime BCHL game.
As the old saying goes, "You have never truly lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you." My heartfelt thanks, gratitude and admiration goes out to everyone who participated in this year's event. Thank you!
