I pay a monthly pro-rated hydro bill and yesterday received a "year end catch up" bill. I called to enquire and was told that since my meter was read in November 2012 and was read again in November 2013 the large fee was for the actual hydro used which amounted to a little over $700 extra. When I spoke to a BC Hydro agent I asked what the kw charge was last year and when it was changed. The step 2 rate was 0.10190 in January 2012 and changed to 0.010340 in April 2013. So why am I being charged 0.010340 for this lump amount of energy from November 2012?
I have heard others are being charged these rates and just want to ensure that all are aware of these rates and the overage that BC Hydro (may be) collecting from the unsuspecting clients.
Since I am being charged $35 per month as of December 2013 due to them having to come read my meter as I refuse to get the new Smart Meter the agent transferred me to the smart meter program. I waited on hold for 20 minutes to only hear that I had to now leave a message and receive a call back within one to two business days due to the large call volume. My concern is that I know you only have read my meter once a year when the old plan was to have the meter read every two months can you please explain to me why I will now be charged the $35 a month for a meter reading?
Received a call from BC Hydro Dec. 20 to be told that I should see a meter reader every two months at my home but now that they have meter readers this should not happen again. They also informed me that the because I am keeping the old equipment (having a meter reader is only part of the $35 charge) the other reason for this charge is the cost of them running another portion of this mesh network in order to have us continue to use this old and obsolete equipment. This charge has been approved by the commission and the only outlet I have to complain is to contact my MLA.
