PGSS is in full swing again after the holidays. 40 students enjoyed the snow and powder during their annual ski trip to Big White in Kelowna. This semester, approximately 120 Prince George secondary school (PGSS) students attended the Prevention of Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) program at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. To participate in this program, the students visit the hospital for a full day and experience what could happen to them if they get in an accident, or harm themselves with drugs and alcohol. They go on tours of the emergency room, intensive care unit, morgue, chapel (and listen to a simulated service for a four-year-old boy killed by a drunk driver), and to a paramedic accident scene. Students also listen to presentations by an ER doctor and an RCMP constable. Students this semester reported the PARTY program to be "life altering" and to have changed their lives and the way they think about partying.
