The school-wide 12 Days of Giving Campaign for the Salvation Army began this past week at Ecole College Heights Elementary. Each day of the 12 days has been designated a theme for donating. Families are encouraged to give where they can. The first four days of giving collected 163 cans of soup, 128 items of pasta and sauce, 78 boxes of cerals and 85 cans of fruit. The support has been overwhelming, and we still have more days to go. We thank everyone for their generosity and for participating in this program.
A visit to our school this week, one would have thought we were a lazy bunch as it was Pajama Week throughout the school. This leadership initiative encouraged staff and students to wear their pajamas any or all days of the week. In total 906 pairs of pajamas were worn. It was a very comfortable week to say the least.
Intermediate students had an extra day off while their teachers spent the day preparing for their Term 1 Report Cards recently. Our Healthy School Student Ambassadors got 32 enthusiastic grade 3 students moving with Line Tag which was great fun. Next game to be taught and enjoyed will be Steal.
The recent falling of fresh snow got the crazy carpets back into action outside recess and lunch. Intermediate and primary students take turns using these on alternating days. This is great physical activity which students really enjoy. Finally, we recently bid farewell to Mme. Reid, who started the year with us and welcomed back Mme. Connell from her maternity leave. The school would also like to welcome our new Teacher Librarian, Mr. Kadonga, who will be working with us on Fridays.

It is truly a season of 'giving and sharing' with acts of kindness and thoughtfulness flourishing at Ecole Heather Park Elementary school.
Mrs. Todd's/Mr. Parry's Grade 7 class are spearheading a 'Coats for Cold' campaign, which runs from November to January. Clean coats of all sizes are collected and stored with Mrs. Good, a youth care worker. If a student or family needs a coat (or two), we will do our best to meet their needs.
Supporting this initiative, Mrs. Waterman's Grade 6 students have placed a Christmas tree in the entrance of the school--which is decorated with donated (and new) toques and mitts. Again, these items will be given to students to keep their heads and hands toasty warm.
In keeping with the true spirit of the Christmas season, Mr. Edge's grade 6/7 class is sponsoring a food drive to support our local food banks. The food drive began Tuesday and lasts for one week. Once again, we will see which house can bring in the most food, so students will be collecting and counting the food on a regular basis. The winning house will win the first annual Heather Park Food Drive trophy (created by Jordan M & Megan A).
As a wrap-up to the volleyball season, on Friday, December 7th, our two Grade 6/7 Girls Volleyball teams enjoyed an entire morning of play at Edgewood Elementary. The girls demonstrated good sportsmanship, good skills, and had a ton of fun. Thanks to their coach-sponsors Mr. Fleck, Mrs. Pillipow and Mr. Johnson for all their encouragement and support.

Up at Hart Highlands Elementary the school is a busy and active place with divisions taking part in the food drive for the Elizabeth Fry Society, a trip to the Christmas Carol performance, a Christmas Book Walk, the KRSS production of Rumplestiltskin, Red Green Day, carol singing, gingerbread house building and so much more. Thank you to everyone that attended our book fair. The event raised over $1,500 that will be used to support our literacy programs. Students are encouraged to continue reading over the holiday break. Writing in a journal about their holidays is a good way to foster writing skills as well.

We are students from the NLC (Northern Learning Centre) in Kelly Road Secondary School, and we would like to inform you of an event that will be taking place January 30th from 7 to 8 p.m. Students in the NLC will be having an exhibition of learning for the community and other students/teachers to come and see what the NLC is about. The Student Exhibition Of Learning is also a free event for anyone to enjoy. The students will be showing some of our larger projects which we have been working year round on. It is a great opportunity for some of the Grade 6 and 7s who will be joining us here at Kelly Road to see what this program offers. If you have any further questions regarding the Student Exhibition Of Learning please contact our teacher, Steve Chase, at [email protected]

Southridge Elementary School wishes to congratulate to all of the Grade 6 and 7 classes for raising over $1,000 for their two Christmas families. They are off on their second shopping trip to purchase food and gifts, and will be down at the Food Bank next week to inventory and pack donations. Well done!
