Students drum up learning before spring break

Around our schools

Mini drums and spirit stones were part of the cultural learning at cole College Heights Elementary for many of our primary students this past week. Mrs. Briscoe, our fabulous Aboriginal Education Worker taught about the important role of the drum in Aboriginal culture and then helped students make their own mini drum. Special spirit stones and pouches were then made after the story, Everyone Needs A Rock was read and the importance of the stones outlined. To help reinforce the current school-wide virtue of focus, fairness, the monthly Social Responsibility assembly was held this past week. Students listened, watched, and even sang about this very important character trait. Basketball season has now ended. A special open gym party was held with both the girls and boys` teams to celebreate their efforts and great sportsmanship throughout the season. We would like to bid a heartfelt au revoir to Mrs. Habchi, our itinerant librarian who has done a fabulous job these past two months. We wish her all the best. One ``sweet`` way to head into Spring Break was with the recent bake sale thanks to the grade 7 students who are raising money for their year end celebration. There were many delicious home baked treats to enjoy. Finally, once again our wonderful PAC has gone out of their way to provide a tastey diversion for student lunches. A pizza day was recently enjoyed by staff and students.
