The City of Prince George is requesting all citizens to complete a form (that is found online) for input on how communities and neighbourhoods should be preserved.
This comes at a time when I have spent much time trying to communicate with city council and management on how they can save our community of Edgewood Terrace.
Since 1996, the majority of residents (as evidenced by signed petitions) have been making presentations to council attempting to maintain our "community," which was originally started in the regional district.
I have had the privilege of living here since 1970, a time when you knew your neighbours, our children played together, neighbours built skating rinks, and an area was cleared to build the school where community events were held. I could go on forever, but enough to say the big developers found out what a gem this area was and they have been trying to cash in on it ever since. Council has gone along with all five rezoning applications by Mr. Brink, ignoring any proposals or concerns by residents.
At the council meeting on July 11, presentations were again made to council. All other concerns have been overruled so now all we are asking for is that the traffic from the new 58-lot subdivision and another 28-lot subdivision does not have access to North Nechako Road through Edgewood Terrace. The infrastructure is not suitable for more traffic and it is putting senior citizens and children who already live here at risk.
While council was very polite and appeared to listen to our concerns, they didn't hear. Mr. McWalter and Mr. Brinks win again. Mr. McWalter even stated that they were just trying to raise the bar for Edgewood Terrace by putting in this big development. Lucky us!
So my question is what can we tell council that will help us preserve our community? More traffic certainly isn't the answer. In my opinion we are a modest neighbourhood of the working class who take pride in our homes and keep them up. Any suggestions would be welcome I'm sure, so I would encourage you all to fill out the forms.
Good luck.
