In response to the letter from Mr. Faoro, I found his arguments self-serving, offensive and weak. Nothing that could possibly hold water.
Firstly, he does not name The Y but implies the organization is not an inclusive part of the community. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
He suggests the Y does not have standards for cleanliness.
This assumption could only be made by a person who has never been there.
Furthermore the evidence, contrary to the writers assertions, is that the Y does have "in place the organization to administer human resources, as well as the experience to deliver services to meet the needs of Prince George 's diverse population."
Currently the hours of operation are much more generous at the Y than they are at the Four Seasons pool.
The staff and volunteers at the Y are dedicated and effective. The "frequent turnover of staff" referred to in the letter is much more evident at city run facilities than it is at the Y.
Just because the city staff are far more expensive does not make them better, prouder or more part of the community. If there was any pride there, bylaw enforcement of bike lanes for example would not be a problem.
Clearly the pool should be part of the Y and situated with the other community recreational resources.
