I am blessed by so many ways. I know this because last year around this time, I wrote in a column about my need for someone to bring me Christmas baking.
The following week, my friend dropped off a tin full of delicious goodies telling me they were from her mom who reads my column.
I was touched. I brought home the baking and my husband and I ate the entire tin, largely by ourselves, only letting the children have a few treats.
A year passes and I forget all about it. Last week, my friend drops off a larger tin with baking, only there wasn't enough room for all of the treats so there was another bag filled to bursting with deliciousness.
I was flabbergasted and very excited.
My friend told me that she was a bit disappointed that in her baking care package, she didn't have any mincemeat tarts. When I looked in my tin, I shyly told her, "I have three!"
I would like to take this opportunity to tell Joan that she is a lovely, sweet lady with a mean hand in the kitchen. Thank you.
As the rest of Prince George is frantically getting ready for Christmas and going to Christmas parties and wrapping presents, I would like to take this opportunity to tell my fellow citizens that I am, in fact, done Christmas shopping and that I am ready for the big day.
However, that would be a lie.
I will likely be shopping and wrapping until Christmas Eve.
I have a brief message for those of you who are done: good work! (I hate you). I am kidding (mostly) but I am very jealous of your forward-thinking and organization.
Maybe next year, I'll will be able to report smugly that I have finished everything by the end of November but I have my doubts.
I wish everyone in Prince George a merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday season.
For people who have lost loved ones, Christmas can be a challenging and lonely time. Please remember that there are people who love you and to reach out to your loved ones this holiday season.
Let's all do our part to spread joy and peace this season and to remember not to be angry, crazy people in the parking lots while you're finishing up your shopping.
Smile and remember that we're all in this together, and that you'll never find the perfect gift. It just won't happen.
Merry Christmas from my family to yours.
