To the people who text while driving, in particular, the person driving north just out of Hixon on September 29th at approximately noon.
I would like to thank you for your split second reaction to swerve back into your lane after wandering into mine. With your vehicle coming right at me I could not help but notice your head was down and your eyes were off the road. I cannot say for certain you were texting but your attention was obviously not on your driving.
I swerved into the ditch to avoid a head on collision with my motorhome and your pick-up truck. I have no doubt if you had hit me, the accident would have caused fatalities. My wife and our dog were my precious cargo, not to mention your own life and mine possibly ending on September 29th.
If you had lived, criminal charges would hopefully have been forthcoming and your life as you now know it would be forever changed.
We were spared a traumatic live-changing event this time.
Next time, that split second that gave you enough time to look up through your windshield and swerve to prevent smashing into a vehicle in your other lane may come too late.
Driving is a privilege not a right. As drivers, we hold each other's lives in our hands and that means 100 per cent undivided attention.
