I would like to share my frustrations that I have regarding School District 57 sibling priority policy.
I have a daughter currently enrolled in College Heights elementary and one that is entering kindergarten in the fall.
We went and registered her at our eldest daughter's school and they ended up being full as we don't live in the catchment - even though we were told there should not be a problem as we moved out of the catchment.
We were told the only way to guarantee our youngest can attend College Heights elementary was to move back to the catchment - kind of hard considering we own our own home. If we had enrolled our child in French immersion it would have been no problem whatsoever as the school district's sibling priority policy would have
guaranteed her a spot.
Why is the school board discriminating against non-choice program families?
So now we have to have our youngest in Malaspina and oldest in College Heights.
Sure we could move our oldest but why take her out of a school where she feels safe, secure, and established? The real challenge now is how do you get them to school at the same time? Whose plays do you go to? etc...
How can a parent be in two places at one time and how is splitting up a family in the best interest of the children? The school board is not putting the best interest of the children first when it comes to this matter. The school board needs to put children first ahead of the almighty dollar.
I know it isn't just my family faced with this, so if you are or know someone facing the same dilemma, contact the trustees via e-mail and keep doing so we need to get this issue fixed. So far dealing with the school district has left a real sour taste in our mouths.
