I spent a day over my Christmas vacation (all four days of it) ensconced in a dark room.
Migraine? Solitary confinement? No, movie theatre.
I always try to take advantage of the opportunity to see films that haven't quite made it Prince George's six screens when I head out of town. The first movie of my three-screening day was Selma, which tells the story of Martin Luther King Jr.'s involvement in the 1965 campaign in Selma, Alabama, to secure equal voting rights.
Selma is a great piece of work and it's no surprise that the soundtrack is equally stellar. The keystone song, which plays over the end credits, is Glory. The collaboration between Common (who plays James Bevel in the movie) and John Legend very neatly ties together the civil rights struggles of decades past with the current unrest.
