Watching Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago, I was pleasantly surprised by the musical guest, Hozier.
Not a name I'd ever heard of before, and I was intrigued that this no-name artist was breaking onto the SNL stage. Apparently, I like to think I'm hipper than I actually am, because Hozier is hardly an unknown commodity - I'm just sadly behind the times.
But I've since made up for it, and the Irish singer-songwriter is now a regular in my daily music rotation. His full-length, eponymous debut album was released North America-side in September and features so many solid songs, it's kind of hard to single one out.
Take Me to Church was the first song he performed on SNL, but I think I'm going to go with the album's penultimate track In the Woods Somewhere. It's dark, it's haunting and I can't stop putting it on repeat. You can pick up the full album for less than $8 on iTunes, but sample the ware on YouTube: http://youtu.be/ZMk-Nb_viR8.
