Song of the Day

In light of the last week, I had a hard time picking a song of the day for today. My initial reaction was something angry, defiant. Something like Iron Maiden's These Colours Don't Run (online here: http://youtu.be/eLWmf78EDjY if you need it).

In light of the last week, I had a hard time picking a song of the day for today.

My initial reaction was something angry, defiant. Something like Iron Maiden's These Colours Don't Run (online here: http://youtu.be/eLWmf78EDjY if you need it).

But after attending a memorial service on Saturday for Warrant Office Patrice Vincent and Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, I had a change of heart.

While they were targeted for their Canadian uniforms, Vincent and Cirillo where sons, brothers and, in Cirillo's case, a father. Their loss is very much a personal loss for the families they will never return to.

The gratitude of a thankful national will not fill the void left in the lives of Cirillo's young son or Vincent's twin sister.

But hopefully they find a way to carry on and find joy again.

On that note, today's song of the day is Amazing Grace, as performed by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards pipe band (http://youtu.be/jkLXOWimMY8).

The enduing song, penned by British poet, clergyman and abolitionist John Newton in 1779 - and brought mournfully to life by the pipers of the Royal Scots -is a fitting tribute those lost and those left behind.

Hopefully Vincent and Cirillo would approve.
