Song

It's Sept. 9, 2014, which means in addition to being the 252nd day of the year, it's also my elder sister's 30th birthday.

When she was born three whole decades ago (far longer than I've been alive, that's for sure), the queen of rock and roll was burning up the charts.

Tina Turner's What's Love Got to Do With It was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second week in a row.

When I think of Tina Turner, my brain immediately jumps to the movie Liar, Liar, starring Jim Carrey. I know she wouldn't be able to recall the exact number - seeing how she's old and on her way to losing her mental faculties - but my sister and I watched that movie way more than was probably necessary when we were kids (thanks, TBS).

There's a moment in the film where Carrey's character, a lawyer whose son makes a birthday wish that he could never lie again, is uncharacteristically compelled to stand up for women.

"Where would Tina Turner be right now if she rolled over and said, 'Hit me again, Ike, and put some stank on it?'"

That line is burned into my memory about as clearly as anything else I could associate with my sister.

So happy birthday, Jonika. What's Liar, Liar got do with it? Who needs a card when the claw can be broken.
