Yesterday readers of the Prince George Citizen found Bryce Lokken front and centre, talking about Robin Williams committing suicide on Monday.
Lokken, a mental health awareness advocate, singer songwriter and a stand up comedian, wrote a song the day Vancouver Canuck player Rick Rypien took his own life on Aug. 15, 2011.
In the summer of 2012 Lokken posted the song publicly and asked those interested to purchase the song on iTunes, with all proceeds going to Mindcheck, a website created to help young people in B.C. connect with mental health resources and support.
Lyrics include poignant statements like 'Oh hero, you picked up our torch and proudly fought our battles for us when we could not' and later 'Oh hero, we will continue your fight. I saw my own worst fears the moment you died'. This is a very moving song about a man who suffered from mental health issues. In honour of those left behind, here is Bryce Lokken's song Rick (A tribute to Rick Rypien) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuAM9FJ0ma8
