I had another song lined up for today, but after hearing the news of Robin Williams' death, I decided to start fresh.

There are a couple of entertainment-related favourites of mine that I can rattle off without hesitation. One is my favourite band, which I've referenced in this space numerous times. The other is my favourite movie - The Birdcage. Based on the French La Cage aux Folles, the Birdcage was a 1996 film starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as business and life partners who try to play it straight when the right-wing family of their son's fiancee comes to dinner.

I can't count the number of times I've seen it. I've even named my car after that movie (Agador Spartacus).

There's an incredible amount of material to pull from that movie, but I'm going to go with a key scene in which Robin Williams does what he does best: an off-the-cuff stream of consciousness designed to motivate his nightclub muse's bored gum-chewing dancer: http://youtu.be/mXkApy0gkjM. Rest in peace, O Captain, my Captain.
