Song of the Day

Summer is traditionally dominated on the charts by catchy pop earworms, and this year has been no exception. But pop music is a lot like fair food -a little is good, too much will make you gag.

Summer is traditionally dominated on the charts by catchy pop earworms, and this year has been no exception.

But pop music is a lot like fair food -a little is good, too much will make you gag.

I need a good solid helping of hard rock to choke down all the Iggy Azalea, Pharrell Williams and Magic! on the radio.

Thankfully former Guns 'n Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash has a new single featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.

World on Fire, released in June, will be the title track for a new album expected to be released later this year.

Slash (born Saul Hudson) has been named one of the top rock guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone and Time magazines among others, so it's unsurprising his solo efforts have been heavy on awesome guitar rifts but a little light in the lyrics.

World on Fire is much the same, dishing up plenty of Slash six-string virtuosity while Kennedy sings some stuff nobody is really listening to anyway.

But it's the perfect cure for summer pop overload. Listen online here: http://youtu.be/Z0KrbsvbxtE.
