Indie-pop singer Ingrid Michaelson's Girls Chase Boys, released this year on her Lights Out album, is a simple, sweet song about surviving breakups.
Michaelson's strong, clear voice makes this a worthwhile listen, but what really grabbed me was watching the video.
It's billed as an homage to the music video for Robert Palmer's 1988 hit, Simply Irresistible - and it is. But it's also a commentary about how women and women's bodies are portrayed in popular media.
The group of pretty female models dancing and posing in makeup and skintight dresses behind Palmer in Simply Irresistible are just part of the scenery of music videos.
But when you the roles reversed, it's readily apparent how ridiculous the whole concept is. The handsome male models dancing and vogueing behind Michealson in lipstick, eyeliner and pink tank tops are jarringly out of place.
As women are added to the mix throughout the video, the side-by-side comparison is striking.
