Whenever I see workers out on a picket line, I always feel compelled to honk and wave in solidarity.
Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for an underdog; or because I spent many years working in non-unionized workplaces were workers were routinely overworked and underpaid; or because I spent two years working on a bachelor of commerce degree and learned about the tricks companies use to exploit their employees; or maybe just because I'd rather see the middle class catch a break than some multi-millionaire get another yacht.
Regardless of the reason, when I see the teachers out on the line this week I'll be showing them some support.
And when I do, perhaps I'll crank up the Dropkick Murphys' cover of the proletarian anthem Worker's Song, from the band's 2003 album Blackout.
The American Celtic-punk rockers provide the perfect soundtrack for stickin' it to The Man.
