I have yet to find a solid cure for getting a song out of my head that I don't want to be in there. For the past couple of days, every time there's a moment when my mind could clear, I'm visited by the ghost of Britney Spears. Her 1999 single Sometimes is an inexplicable ear worm, especially considering I can't pinpoint where in the world I would have heard it recently. I can't even blame it on an inevitability of being a fan, because I"m not and never was, not even when she broke out on the scene when I was in Grade 8 and everyone was clamouring to make our Catholic school uniforms mimic the look in her debut music video. If simply mentioning that song has dragged you down into misery with me, I apologize. This week, I'm looking to counteract it with LiveonRelease, a Vancouver female pop-punk group whose short-lived career produced the 2001 single I'm Afraid of Britney Spears which attempted to offer an anti-pop star anthem. See the music video for a fun jaunt back in time to my high school days: http://youtu.be/N_M4_6Xoj1k
