Thirty-five years ago, Van Halen released its debut album to mixed reviews, mostly because rock critics of the day simply didn't understand the sonic gold being pumped into their ears. Naturally, it's now considered a classic and one of the finest rock records of the 1970s.
The second track of the album, Eruption, is an instrumental introduction to a smoking cover of The Kinks classic You Really Got Me. It introduced Eddie Van Halen to the rock world and cemented his reputation as one of the greatest guitar players ever. Eruption remains the gold standard for guitar players to this day - if you can play Eruption, you're a player.
