With the news of Phil Everly's death this past weekend, it seems like as fitting a time as any to break out a track from Foreverly for my first Song of the Day of 2014.
The album, released in late November, is an unlikely collaboration between Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and singer-songwriter Norah Jones.
Long Time Gone was the lead single from Foreverly, an album paying tribute to the Everly Brothers' 1958 record Songs Our Daddy Taught Us. And with lyrics such as "Baby, there'll be no tomorrow/'Cause when I leave, I'll be a long time gone," Long Time Gone seems apt following the passing of someone who is regarded as one of the most influential voices in rock and roll history.
