There are different songs or tunes that you may listen to when you are in certain moods. When you are in a grumpy mood, which is often my case, you may tend to listen to something a little heavier. Some metal music maybe, where if you crank it the neighbours may not be able to make out your screams of frustration above the guitar riffs.
There are also certain types of music you may listen to when exercising (see page 6) and when you are in a good mood or want to get in a better mood. You certainly don't want to listen to the likes of Asleep by The Smiths or Borrowed Tune by Neil Young when you are trying to boost your mood.
You want something more upbeat, something that makes you want to sing along instead of reaching for the piece of rope attached to the closet door. You want to dance on the floor, not with the devil.
And with that lovely thought my choice of song of the day for this week is a little ditty by Eliza Doolittle called Pack Up. The chorus of the song may be familiar to those over the age of 40, although you may have to be from Europe. The tune Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile is, according to Wikipedia, the full name of a World War I marching song, published in 1915 in London.
Wars aside this little ditty by Doolittle is a fun tune and is sure to have you singing along and I bet you won't be able to play it just once.
So the next time you are in a crappy mood and think about turning on some I Hate Myself And Want To Die by Nirvana keep this little ditty by Doolittle on hand to enhance the mood. You never know, you might feel so good you may just decide to head out and buy a new pair of shoes. Although if your financial troubles put you in a bad mood in the first place this may not be such a good idea. Resist the urge to buy footwear and dance around the room instead, who cares if you are in your underwear.
