Song of the Day

Thursday has become the social media-designated day for throwbacks, but since my Song of the Day slot falls on Tuesday, I'll have to make do.

Thursday has become the social media-designated day for throwbacks, but since my Song of the Day slot falls on Tuesday, I'll have to make do.

Yesterday, I came across the startling nostalgia-related news that the creator of Full House - the 1990s family television show that launched the rise of the Olsen twins, John Stamos, and Bob Saget as a clean-cut funny man - was in talks to create a sequel, spin-off series. This new show would focus on sisters D.J. and Stephanie Tanner and their families.

This show would never work in a million years. If you've ever caught a rerun of Full House you'll see that it just doesn't hold up. (Full disclosure - a 90s show that is still good and that I love to this day: Boy Meets Word. I can't wait for the new Girl Meets World series featuring Corey and Topanga's daughter.)

But since we're talking reworking 90s classics, I'm drawn to Depeche Mode. In 2004, a handful of their songs were included on a remix album. Their 1990 hit single Enjoy the Silence was fuzzed up by Mike Shinoda and the I think the reinterpretation worked. Not like this Full House nonsense.
