This weeks marks the opening of the second Hunger Games movie, based on the book Catching Fire. Although the books have been out since 2008, I wasn't remotely interested until a couple of weeks prior to the release of the first movie. A friend had read the books and wanted to see the movie, and thought I would be a good companion. So I picked up the first one. I didn't put it down and within a week I had the whole trilogy under my belt.
Ah, this must all be leading up to a song off of the Catching Fire soundtrack, right? Not quite. I'm actually going to use the opportunity to draw a weak parallel to one of the most influential albums ever recorded, The Wailers' 1973 breakout Catch A Fire.
The record opens with Concrete Jungle (what do you know, a jungle plays a major role in Catching Fire) and Bob Marley and his bandmates Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer were finally on the radar of music listeners outside of Jamaica and the West Indian diaspora. Hear the original version of the song on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdeGlEMwZXc) or by scanning the page with Layar.
