Song of the Day

Apparently I'm on a bit of a British kick lately. I blame it on the fact that I listen to old Russell Brand podcasts as I fall asleep at night. After the Spice Girls, there weren't any contemporary U.K.

Apparently I'm on a bit of a British kick lately. I blame it on the fact that I listen to old Russell Brand podcasts as I fall asleep at night.

After the Spice Girls, there weren't any contemporary U.K.-based groups that made a lasting impression on me (my growing affinity for the Sex Pistols during high school doesn't count).

That changed about a year into university, when the Arctic Monkeys crossed the pond with their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not in 2005.

I can't say that I've followed the band as closely as some of my other interests, but their upcoming album AM, due for release Sept. 10, has piqued my interest. Stop the World I Wanna Get Off With You isn't actually on that album, but a B-side released last week. It's the kind of song that made me fall in with the chilly primates in the first place, and I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of sophisticated garage rock they're churning out this time.
