Robin Thicke is currently making headlines for his chart-topping song of the summer Blurred Lines - which Arthur Williams featured as his own Song of the Day a few weeks ago. In addition to dominating the Billboard charts, the song's risque video, featuring topless models strutting their stuff around Thicke, and collaborators T.I. and Pharell Williams, is also making waves. For me, the most interesting aspect of all of this hubbub is the notion that Thicke has now finally "made it." This is a confusing idea for me to get behind, considering I've been listening to his stuff for years. I was actually kind of surprised that he wasn't all that mainstream because I honestly thought he was already incredibly well-known. (He also plays a hilarious version of himself on the TV show The Real Husbands of Hollywood.) Thicke got his start as a songwriter for big names before getting on the mic himself. In his earliest days he sampled Beethoven for the incredibly catchy When I Get You Alone. Go back to 1999 when Thicke wasn't the suave crooner we see today, but more of a long-haired bike messenger with an uncanny resemblance to Jason Seaver: http://youtu.be/B7K7orMOHqY
