I'm not quite ready to give up on the surge of nationalism that accompanies every July 1. I blame it on the fact that I spent a handful of years living in Ottawa, which puts on the country's best Canada Day celebration (as it should, seeing how it's the nation's capital), so I always feel like something is missing come July 2. It also has something to do with the fact that I spent my Dominion Day inside the office. Jesus wept, I know.
When you spend holidays working, you need some seriously upbeat music to keep you from staring longingly at the window - even if it's raining. One of the songs that doesn't make it seem like such a bad idea to have to punch the timesheet comes courtesy of Shangela Laquifa, of RuPaul's Drag Race fame. Known out of drag as D.J. Pierce, Laquifa can compel anyone to want to be a professional with her incredibly catchy 2012 single Werqin' Girl. Watch her 'werq' on YouTube: http://youtu.be/hArTHxRpKmM.
