OK, after Charelle "Charexcellency" Evelyn tried to hijack my song of the day yesterday, I have decided to go a different way this week.

Yes, a lot of my previous choices may have been a bit out there, and some people may have even said "What the..." when they saw the choices, but now that someone else in the office has been getting too close with her choices, I thought I needed to pick a song I thought she would most likely never have heard.

So this week my choice is an Irish band from County Cavan called The Strypes. I had never heard of them myself until last week. Band members range from 15 to 17 years of age - and before you go off on a tangent - no they are not your typical boy band.

The Strypes play a mix of rock and blues harking back to the late '60s and early '70s and even dress in their videos like the Rolling Stones or The Beatles would have dressed.

According to Wikipedia, During a February 2013 TV appearance on Chelsea Lately guest hosted by Dave Grohl [of the Foo Fighters], Sir Elton John said of The Strypes, "They have a knowledge of R&B and blues at 16 years of age that I have only amassed in my 65 years. They're just like a breath of fresh air."

I'm not sure about being a breath of fresh air, 'cos that is pretty hard to find in this town, but they

certainly are good at what they do.
