As I've said in this space before, I'm a big fan of contradictions in music.
Sometimes those inconsistencies are my doing, when I pair solemn sounding music with bright, sunny days.
Other times, the artist takes care of that themselves. One song that I give a lot of play is Dangerous Times by Canadian indie rockers Wildlife.
Off their 2013 album ...On the Heart, the song starts with a tambourine and drum intro giving way to what can only be described as synth-y summer hook - one that would perfectly paired with a montage of fun-loving 20-somethings on a sunny California road trip.
But a glance at the lyrics paints a much different, nightmarish scene, with lines like "You are caught in a wave/Its crashed through a building... And there is three feet of air/'Til we breathe water through our souls."
Dangerous times, indeed. Check out the Toronto-based band's track on YouTube: http://youtu.be/VqifEk5EcGM
(I would also recommend taking a peek at their website, wildlifemusic.ca, just because it's rad.)
