Song of the day

Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot has made more headlines for being arrested, jailed and beaten by Cossack militia soldiers than for their music.

Band members were pepper sprayed and beaten with horse whips when they attempted an impromptu performance in Sochi during the winter Olympics.

What were three women in colourful novelty balaclavas going to sing that warranted such a response? Perhaps, something like Putin Lights Up the Fires - a single release in August 2012 after three band members were convicted of hooliganism.

The chorus of the defiant, punk rock track calls for Russians to take to the streets and drive President Vladimir Putin out of office- in screaming Russian of course.

To be honest, it loses more than a bit in translation -but the heavy guitar work sounds good, in a loud angry way, in any language.
