The residents of Red Rock/Stoner area are being told that a biosolids storage area on Patterson Road East is a good thing for the environment. The numbered company (that owns the land) and Sylvis (Vancouver company) are telling us there is no need to worry even though they cannot prove it is safe to use as a fertilizer. The numbered company is promoting this for faster tree growth on their wood lot. The biosolids are "Class B" which means there may be some contamination. "Class A" means it has been tested and proven safe. The Highways YRB turned down the opportunity to spread this by the new weigh scales because they don't want any negative outcry from the public. So, why should we be forced to take this?
There is also the possibility of air-borne contamination and some water pollution to streams, springs and wells in the area. The road bans are delaying the hauling and storage for now, so perhaps the community will take a stand together and "just say no." I think a roadblock is not out of the question, and the residents here are prepared to stand together and fight this invasion of our rights. Maybe when the poop hits the fan, our city leaders will listen, or they should spread it in their own yards and see how the neighbours react.
