The Christmas holiday season is here and many of us are looking for the perfect gift.
If I could give you one perfect gift, what would it be?
I would want it to be something you would always enjoy and find fun, relaxing and rewarding. It would be a gift that could be enjoyed by one person, or shared by the whole family.
It would be something that would be appreciated by all ages.
It would give children a chance to experience nature and be a diversion from the computer and social media. It would give adults the freedom of some quiet time away from a busy home and workplace, and seniors a chance to revisit a familiar pastime.
It would be a gift that is good for the environment and economical. The size of this gift would be as small as a packet, or as large as your landscape will provide.
What gift could possibly fill all of these wishes and yet be available to everyone?
My gift, of course, would be the gift of gardening.
If you already have gardening in your life, you know of the many great attributes of this wonderful activity and hobby.
Gardening is accessible in all four seasons, indoors and out, and can be enjoyed in something as small as a newly-planted seed, or in an entire yard full of trees, plants, water features, and more.
It relieves stress and is a great source of fresh air and exercise.
Gardening is also a wonderful gift to share, so consider growing a family garden, bringing tropical plants into your home and to the homes of your friends and family, and encouraging your children to start their own gardening projects, as they will learn valuable, life-long skills.
It is not often that you can find a gift that has so much to offer at so little a cost.
My wish to everyone this holiday season is to give you the gift of gardening and the enjoyment of growing wonderful plants, flowers, vegetables and trees and shrubs.
Remember, gardening is for life - make it part of your yours.
