Well I finally got around to writing and sending my cheque in for a business licence. You see, like many, I own and rent out a property. Also l assume like many I do not cover the cost of my mortgage with the rent, but subsidize it. This is done as an investment and to give someone an affordable place to live, and hopefully giving a little something back to the community that in my formative years helped me be who I am today.
On principle I don't really mind having a licence, because yes I do receive money, that is income on my taxes. I however do resent paying more than some full-time businesses. I also do not like the fact that when presented with a chance to fine home owners (who may or may not know) they are renting illegally, stated that the citizens already have had in the past year extra taxes etc. Seems to me only the honest ones have and council has decided the slippery ones shouldn't be bothered.
