Skakun receiving public flogging

I am given to wonder about our current city councillors and mayor Rogers. We have a situation where councillor Skakun's actions could have and should have, been dealt with outside of the court system. Councillor Skakun, according to the law, made a poor choice to reconcile an uncomfortable situation. He felt the public should be informed about a circumstance, which he felt was not getting addressed properly. He was not being malicious nor did he or anyone else profit financially or receive any other benefits or reward from this action.

City council however decided to up the ante and threw councillor Skakun to the wolves. Twelve days of court time, lossed job time for councillors, RCMP and others not to mention the cost. They laid open the personal life of councillor Skakun and others. Their actions clogged up the courts, where we are having a hard time to find the court time to prosecute serious crimes and hardened criminals. What was the result? It was the same as it would have been if the mayor and city council had chosen to go the other way.

But is that the end of the story? No! It now appears that our Mayor and council were not satisfied with the court system. Mayor Rogers is attempting to forward changes to the system that would increase the penalties. In other words he not only wanted councillor Skakun punished, and humiliated, he wanted him flogged. The Mayor and council are now attempting to administer the flogging themselves by censuring him, to further cripple him from being an effective councillor. There is the distinct odour of a vendetta being carried out and a sad day for City Hall.
