I am responding to Neil Godbout's caustic editorial concerning Coun. Brian Skakun's efforts to request information about city expenditures. Unlike Mr. Godbout, I think it is reasonable that elected officials be able to request such information. This is simply a matter of good governance. My main objection, however is the sarcastic and disrespectful tone of the editorial, depicting Mr. Skakun as a mischief-maker and attention-seeker.
While I appreciate that the editor is entitled to his strong opinions and has the privilege of expressing them in the editorial column, I felt that this column was excessive and akin to a personal "rant."
