The Association of Major Power Customers of BC recently expressed concerns over BC Hydro's proposed Site C dam. The Association worries that rate increases resulting from the construction of the proposed $8 billion dam will seriously affect the viability of mills and mines around the province. In response, BC Hydro announced a $100 million fund to assist these large energy consumers to adjust to electricity rate increases. So, where does that leave the rest of us? Residential rate payers and small- and medium-sized businesses will be hit doubly hard. We are already seeing our power bills jump to pay for BC Hydro's existing debt. If Site C were to go ahead, not only would we be paying for a dam that experts say we don't need, we would also be subsidizing the large corporations. Site C would hurt all BC residents.
