Shocked and appalled at editorial

I am writing in response to your editorial on Thurs. Feb.25, 2010. I was absolutely shocked and appalled at the way you took it upon yourself to verbally attack Nathan Marshall - at what could only be called a feeble attempt at making a point.

I am writing in response to your editorial on Thurs. Feb.25, 2010.

I was absolutely shocked and appalled at the way you took it upon yourself to verbally attack Nathan Marshall - at what could only be called a feeble attempt at making a point.

I am the mother of a recovering drug addict, so I know firsthand the devastating effect it has on the families and friends of the drug addict. Your heartless disregard for Nathan Marshall's family was not only inappropriate but uncalled for.

I wonder if you even considered the pain that they are going through right now while you wrote your editorial.

Unless you have been through it, you will never know the heartache, the pain, the endless sleepless nights that families spend worrying, crying, praying and wondering if their loved ones are even still alive.

Sadly, for the Marshall family they got the call that every family dealing with drug addiction dreads.

The call where they tell you that your loved one is dead.

How dare you inflict more pain and suffering on a family that is already suffering their worst nightmare come true! If you, sir, are what the human race is coming to, than I don't want to be in the race anymore!

Also, if you are "gathering" any information from Facebook I suggest you resign post-haste. I think someone with a bit more professional attitude, and someone who doesn't use Facebook for leads to their stories would be more suitable for your position.

Your last comment was;

Drug users need treatment for their addiction and society needs to stop being kind, gentle and compassionate when dealing with them.

I pray to God that never happens - I don't want to live in a world where being kind, gentle and compassionate doesn't exist.

What is needed is more access to treatment - both short and long term, to help people end the vicious cycle they are in when consumed by drug addiction.

Also, the government needs tougher laws and penalties and some concrete changes to our justice system, to help give law enforcement the tools they need to successfully fight this battle against drugs.

After all it is our (society) battle too.
