Regarding 30 year tax breaks.
Tax breaks shift the tax burden to other businesses and home owners. The taxes not being received have to be made up from the only source there is, the taxpayer. A tax break is a gift of money from the city to the business. This provides a unfair advantage to one business over another. The question is why a successful business would require public money and why they would not want to support the city they plan to take there profits from?
Massive environmental costs have already been incurred with the purchase of the P.G. Hotel, the Norgate body shop and the old Bingo hall on Victoria Street. It may be time to stop adding to the long-term liability of the city taxpayers.
