Shame we don’t use waterfront

I've made the drive down Queensway many a time and upon reflection of what I've seen, always wondered why Prince George has never made more of the beautiful waterfront that we have.

I've made the drive down Queensway many a time and upon reflection of what I've seen, always wondered why Prince George has never made more of the beautiful waterfront that we have.

There are private homes, a trail, a park and some industrial space but nowhere is there a restaurant, pub, public market, sports venue, community greenhouse or any thoughtful usage of the Nechako or Fraser Rivers. When I write of thoughtful usage, I look at every other waterfront city; be it river, lake or ocean frontage elsewhere in the world and see how they have repurposed these beautiful vistas for more than industry.

The days of sternwheelers are gone by 100 years and while flooding is always a consideration, everywhere else repurposing has been done.

At the bend of the south end of Queensway lies a large tract of gorgeous space that could be used for anything, chances are it will be a tire shop one day but I guess anything would be better than a billboard.

What a shame.
