I have been a resident of Hart highlands for 36 years, and for the entire 36 years, this area has been promised a sewer system by the city government. We are currently using septic tanks that are well past their life span, and starting to pose serious health concerns. Some of the streets in our area were placed on sewer last summer, and the street that I live on was scheduled to be connected in the summer of 2015.
The residents of this area are expected to personally finance the installation and connection, and the cost is huge. Two of our residents painstakingly researched grants available to cities for infrastructure renewal, and went to city council with the information last fall. City council said that they were impressed by their extensive research and promised to apply for the grants and to let us know if we had been successful -- we were supposed to hear the result on January 19th.
When we arrived at city council meeting on the 19th, we found that our sewer system wasn't even on the agenda, the grant application had been successful, and the money was being proposed for another project. How can this possibly be considered acceptable behavior by a city government that promised fairness and transparency?
