Seniors housing project lacks parking

Construction continued on the RiverBend Seniors Housing project off of 20th Avenue on Aug. 3, 2016.

An item of concern on the extremely positive initiative of building the Riverbend seniors housing project that a lot of taxpayers may not be aware: like in the rest of downtown there is an extreme parking problem. They have built a beautiful complex but, knowing some of the new residents and making effort to go and visit them, it is very limited in visitor parking stalls with a high risk of being towed. As it was completed in the fall and with the pavement freshly done and nicely marked, each stall has an apartment number stamped in the pavement. With it now being snow covered, one can't see any of the markings and there is no posted areas visible where visitors may park. I would hope that this could be considered a hiccup and will be rectified sooner than later.

In the meantime one doesn't get to go and visit the tenants without hassle. The reason to voice this concern is with the new announcement of the same company being employed on the new development across from The Keg, if the goal is the same to have high-density and inadequate parking then that will be no different and restrict that project's effectiveness. It has been said to me that on street parking has been improved by going to angle parking. In my opinion, the few spots gained in that initiative is a drop in the bucket compared to what is actually needed.
