In regards to the article "Month-long gun amnesty," in 2013, more than 1,800 firearms and other related items being destroyed by the RCMP.
With another amnesty set for this October, just wondering if there is any reason why the police could not rent a table at one of our local gun shows (or perhaps a table would be donated by the gun club in name of a charity) and instead of destroying the surrendered guns and other related items, sell them to legal gun owners who attend the shows with all the proper papers needed to purchase and own these firearms and related items.
The proceeds from the sales could go to one of our local struggling charities - the cancer society, SPCA, Salivation Army, Child Development Centre, to name a few that could greatly benefit from the donations.
At the lowest end of an estimate, just supposing each gun were to sell for as low as $100, which again, is the very low end of a price for almost any make or model of firearm, even those being bought by gunsmiths and collectors for parts this adds up to a lot of money, not to mention more collectible firearms that would bring even more money for the cause.
And, from the point of view of somebody surrendering "grandpa's old gun from the basement," this would be something they could proudly do in grandpa's name.
