In recent weeks I've been searching the ditches and fields for the gorgeous wild flowers that appear so naturally, so spontaneously, without human initiative. The digital memories on my screen saver will brighten my thoughts for years to come.

I feel very privileged to live in this incredible scenic part of the world, especially at this time of year, as the cycles of life are renewed. Over a lifetime my favourite times with God have been spent alone enjoying His awesome creative genius.

A few summers ago, off the west coast, I watched a bald eagle diving down, attacking a small duck with a crest on its head. As the eagle approached, the duck would dive under the water, but it could only stay under for a second or two and pop back up again. Apparently it was not a diving bird, so it had to time the dive just right. This happened about five times. It was a desperate situation, and I fully expected to watch a catch, when suddenly the little duck escaped by flying low over the water and the bald eagle gave up the chase.

Sometimes we feel like that little duck: harassed by financial pressures, broken relationships, blocked goals, worry, anger, or depression. These things seem to bombard us, and we feel like things could collapse at any time.

I have personally found that God is my refuge and strength when I am desperate. He has become my best friend in the good times as well as in the desperate times. I want to recommend Him to you, because nothing can satisfy like He does.

We can have the most expensive house in Prince George and still be miserable. We can fulfill our lifelong dreams and still be discontent. We can appear successful on the charts, and know in our hearts that we didn't win.

Getting to know God personally is a lifelong process, but it starts with a first step. The ancient prophet Jeremiah tells us "if you search for him (God) with all your heart and soul, you will find him."

The supernatural satisfaction, peace and joy He gives are readily available when we choose to trust Him. God bless you!
