Good to hear that story on the core review and what the mayor had to say about it in defense.
Of course her position would be to defend the process, because it was largely initiated by her.
The fact that they threw out a bunch of recommendations is nothing more that throwing out our tax dollars for some of the study.
That said, what are all the people in city hall doing, if not looking for ways to save us money?
Where is the conscious effort to look at every system and cost and try to do it better?
I don't believe that we needed a core review, except internally at city hall, if the people doing the jobs can't see the problems, then there is something wrong.
Is the city manager so mired in workload that she can't look beyond that, at efficiencies?
The head of a department can't effectively do her job if all she is doing is putting out day-to-day fires.
Council was able to review and reject the proposals, no small job I am sure, why couldn't they look at the systems in place and review if they needed change.
This is just general housekeeping at city hall, there was nothing new in the core review. We have simply outsourced some of the basic jobs to a contractor from outside.
Lastly I think reinstalling parking meters downtown is a severe, very costly setback. It will again hamper business and generally drive people out of the core. It may not be so much the cost of plugging a meter, as the process of finding change, having the correct change and then plugging a meter at minus 20 degrees.
