Schools preparing for Christmas concerts, helping feed needy

The students and teachers at Cedars Christian School have been busy preparing for their annual Christmas concert on Friday at Westwood MB Church. There will be two performances: Grades 1-6 at 11a.m. and at 7 p.m. where the preschool, kindergarten and the Grade 1-6 students will present their programs. Our students will also support the Salvation Army Kettle and Hamper drives this year.

Today at 8:50 a.m. students at Malaspina elementary school will be treated to a very exciting event. Yes, once again, Santa Claus will, fly in on a Pacific Western Helicopter. Once he has arrived Santa will join Malaspina students, and staff in a very special pancake breakfast.

PGSS is looking forward to our next production, "Oliver Twist" a drama, by Robert Thomas Noll, (produced by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing Company. This will be performed every night until Saturday at 7 p.m. in Vanier Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets at the door $8 adults, $5 seniors and students. (PG 13 for violence and language). Matinees Thursday to Saturday at 1 p.m. This weekend PGSS will be hosting a senior boys basketball tournament. Good luck to our Polars. A reminder that our hockey spirit game is coming next week, Dec. 17 at CN Centre against College Heights.

Congratulations to cole Franco-Nord's mixed volleyball team. The team capped off a great season with six wins and one loss at the season end tournament held at Vanway elementary. Congratulations to our monthly stars who deserved recognition for many reasons: from improved work habits to showing excellent judgement when dealing with negative situations. Bravo: Chlo, Steven, Joshua C, Caden, Afra, Claire, Simon, Hannah, Jayden, Noah G-A, Katelyne, Chantal, Tiana, Sarah, Stacy, Kaylee, Noelle and Krystal.

The concert de Nol will be held on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. Come and enjoy a concert filled with dance, theater and music, all in French of course. The school is located at 2641 Ellison Drive.

At Quinson elementary, Mr. Makowsky's Grade 6/7 class and Mrs. McDonald's kindergarten class enjoyed a field trip to the art gallery where they saw some interesting exhibits and created some fabulous art. Our Quinson Choristers, under the direction of Miss Duerksen, did a fantastic job performing two songs at Vanier Hall for "Christmas Nights of Music." They also sang "O Canada" at the Spruce Kings Hockey game on Saturday night. Our Student Leadership Club is busy organizing "The Twelve Days of Giving." All food items will be donated to the Salvation Army food bank and St. Vincent de Paul. Quinson staff is hosting a craft night at 6 p.m. tonight. Students and their parents are invited to make a Christmas craft while enjoying a hot chocolate and cookie. Lastly, all staff and students are working hard in preparation for our Christmas concert, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," set for 7 p.m. Dec. 15.

The giving spirit is alive and well at Westwood elementary. Students and parents have been bringing in non-parishable food items for the school's annual Salvation Army food drive. All classes are putting the final touches on their individual performances for the upcoming Christmas concert. To coincide with this exciting event, the Westwood PAC will be holding a silent auction. The Westwood Wildcat volleyball teams ended their season with fine play and great sportsmanship at the Edgewood Playday. Students and parents can look forward to term one report cards going home Thursday.

Primary students at Sacred Heart School enjoyed a rotation ofseasonal activities on Tuesday, which included games, stories, crafts and healthy treats. The choir students will visit Gorse Manor today and Gateway Seniors' Residence on Friday to sing Christmas carols. Our December Movie Night will also take place on Friday.

Don't forget to bring your pillows andblankets.

cole Heather Park elementary's leadership students have organized a food drive to collect non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army food bank. In the hopes of increasing donations and supporting such a valuable and much needed cause, we have also challenged Kelly Road's student council to see which school can bring in the most food (per capita) between Dec. 1 and Dec. 14.

The Big Bad Wolf recently visited Mr. Franz's & Mrs. Parker's Gr.4/5 classroom. As an introduction to Reader's Theatre, Mr. Fleck, Mr. Watt and Ms. Weisgarber read a very animated retelling of "The Three Little Pigs" to an appreciative and enthusiastic audience.

To celebrate the end of Term 1, four Gr.6-7 classes enjoyed a field trip to the Aquatic Centre where a splashingly good time was enjoyed by all. The remaining Gr.6-7 classes enjoyed a very informal dance at lunch - where loud music and excess energy was the norm!

Tasty treats abound as the two English Kindergarten classes, with the supporting hands of their Big Buddies, are creating gingerbread houses this week.

Mrs. McLachlan and several parent volunteers have organized and started running activities for primary students at recess and lunch every day. The leadership kids are a huge part of helping make these activities a success as well. These activities as well as other clubs will be continued in the New Year.

A reminder: report cards go home on Dec. 15.

The families of Highglen Montessori elementary are encouraged to bring in cans and dry goods to fill the boxes outside of the office. These items will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Students from Mrs. Rockwell and Mrs. Scott's class will be attending PGSS today to visit the Montessori Highschool program as well as enjoying the play, "Oliver Twist."

Vanway elementary is busy for the month of December. Report cards are coming this week.

The art show and silent auction is 6:30 to 8 p.m. today.

The Christmas sleigh ride will also take place on Friday. Also the Christmas concert performances will be held on Dec. 16 at 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Last day of school is Dec. 17 and classes will resume on Jan. 4. Have a wonderful and safe Christmas and see you all in the New Year.
