The government acted in 1997 to ban a toxic gasoline additive MMT.
Under the free trade agreement, Ethyl Corp sued the taxpayers and won a $251-million lawsuit.
The banning of MMT for health reasons was tantamount to expropriation under NAFTA.
Nestle Corp. bottles millions of litres of B.C. water while paying virtually nothing for the resource.
If the province charges Nestle a reasonable royalty, water becomes defined as a commodity, under NAFTA. As such, B.C. must guarantee Nestle a supply or compensate them if the supply is cut back. Drought may be a reason for a cut back.
Wake up, politicians.
All of these so called free-trade agreements are about the destruction of our sovereignty by the multinational corporations. They are about hamstringing the government's ability to look after the interests of citizens. They are about destroying competition to the benefit of large corporations.
With the exception of small business, we have not had a free market, free enterprise system for decades. Say no to the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
