Safety of child is paramount

I have been a resident of Prince George for 22 years. My oldest son is now attending Kelly

Road secondary as prior he was attending Hart Highlands and was serviced by

bus. We live 3.2 km from the high school if he was to walk down the side of the Hart Highway, which on some sections has no walkway or lighting, or 3.9 km if he takes another route that is safe. I have tried to apply for transportation but have been told that we live too close (less than 4 km). I then tried to have my son put on an existing bus for winter courtesy as per set out in the School District 57 legislation policy 3541 which is available at request. I have met all qualifications, further more that my child is not the only one that this would service.

Still they meet me with red tape and suggestions that I should put my child on public transit for $40 per month. There are two city buses called school specials that service the Ridgeview area and are full, raising more questions.

I have witnessed a year-round bus that travels 3.1 km servicing East Austin Rd. past Dawson Rd. When questioning them I was told that it is just a (courtesy) bus that will be under review. I see the need to revisit the services that our schools are paying for. The farther that I have investigated into this I am finding more parents that are not satisfied with the school districts bus services.

I am not asking for any special treatment, just the safety and well being of my child.
