I was deeply saddened to hear that the Prince George Citizen will no longer be publishing a Monday paper as of February 15.
To be frank, when I first heard mention of the paper on the radio, I feared the worst.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't have been much of a surprise, considering that other newspapers have sadly disappeared due to the changing media landscape over the years. It was a sad day for our city when we lost our other local paper last spring.
This morning, I heard that The Citizen's flyers will now be bundled down in Vancouver and then sent back to Prince George for delivery.
That is disheartening, for that means that jobs will be lost up here. I realize that sometimes businesses have to make these tough decisions, but I can't help but feel for all of the people who will be negatively affected by these changes.
The Prince George Citizen marks its hundredth anniversary this year.
Here's to hoping that it's around for at least another hundred more years.
